Two Souls, Intertwined: A Heartwarming Finish to the Drama Kafeel
What a beautiful, poignant finish to an emotional journey of Zeba,
demonstrating peaceful moments and simple happiness. For 20+ years of struggle,
Zeba endured an abusive/toxic marriage. She always complained that Jamshed
(Jami) failed to fulfill the role of a kafeel. Being financially unstable and
irresponsible, he was reluctant to take care of his family. Moreover, he
emotionally neglected Zeba as the emotional lyrics,
“Mere Humnasheen Mere meherbaan
Mere Dard ki jo Dawa Nahi
Mere Ashk Mein Naseeb Hai
Mujhe Tujh se koi Gila Nahi.” are associated with Zeba’s heartrending emotions
and sentiments.
It all began when Sanam Saeed, the protagonist playing
the part of Zeba, met a handsome young man at a friend's wedding. An attractive
and good-looking young man named Jamal fell in love with Zeba. Jamal’s role, played by Hasan Khan, appeared
as a singer in the initial episode. He found
a gold earring that Zeba dropped unintentionally at the event. The singer handed
it over to Zeba at the end of the party, along with a small piece of cloth with
a note. Zeba, a young, college-going girl, also got emotionally involved with
the singer. However, this crucial event became the central conflict of the play,
leading to Zeba's disastrous marriage with Jami.
Zeba's family, including her mother and
grandmother, followed rigid family dynamics prioritizing their family and
social reputation over their daughter’s happiness. Therefore, Munazza Arif, Zeba’s mother, arranged her daughter’s wedding in a respectable
family. Jami (Jamshed, played by Emmad Irfani) was the younger brother of Zeba’s
mother's friend Farhana.
Compared to Zeba’s mother, her father, Kashif
Mehmood, appeared to be a sensible and pragmatic father. He did not agree with
the idea of the hasty wedding of Zeba, but rather emphasized that Zeba continue
with her future studies. However, the wedding took place within a few days, and
the dark chapter of Zeba’s life began. A deep melancholy descended upon Zeba
when she discovered that her marriage had taken place with a different man who
unexpectedly had the same name, Jami.
Jami, the character played by Emmad Irfani was a cold-hearted, emotionally detached person who never cared for his wife and family. Being the youngest child of the family, Jami got spoiled by his parents and siblings. He was unemployed and lived on his brother’s expenses. Since the beginning of the wedding, he showed his greed. From demanding a dowry from his wife to keeping a close watch on the monetary gifts Zeba received, Jami's obsessive greed persisted.
Zeba finally realized that she regretted wasting
years with Jami. Prioritizing her children's happiness and sanity, Zeba walked
away from a chaotic life. She decided to take khula from Jami and began the
next chapter enthusiastically. Zeba sought the autonomy to shape her own
destiny and that of her children. Even her son, when asked to find a rented
simple home, Subok’s emotions lit up. It was the happiest moment for the whole
family to exhibit their personal freedom and joy living in a small, simple, unfurnished
house. With her sisters' support, Zeba arranged
her daughter's wedding.
The drama took a significant turn when Zeba met
Jamal after 25 years at her friend's wedding. Zeba's emotions were conflicted
due to her traumatic marriage. Despite her love for Jamal, she struggled with
the guilt of moving on and thought of how her children would perceive her
having a relationship in her later years. Caught in a cycle of fear and judgment,
she kept thinking, "Log kya kahenge?"
Instead of focusing on her
children's future, she is planning her own life. These overwhelming thoughts
agonized and disheartened Zeba, who continued to reject Jamal's proposal for a
second marriage.
After weeks of emotional twists, ultimately, Jamal was able to convince Zeba for the second marriage. The wedding scene in the last episode was a soul-soothing, heartwarming closure. It shows a well- deserved and rewarding reunion for Zeba and Jamal, who were deeply devoted to each other and had pure and sincere emotions and feelings.
The drama strongly highlights that it’s never too
late to make the right decision to choose happiness and peace over a tormenting
life. Zeba’s encouraging life has created
light for all those battered women and girls who are suffering in silence and
continue to stay in a troubled marriage for the sake of family traditions,
societal expectations, and securing the future of their children. The drama stimulates
the mind to choose freedom, walk away from toxicity. It is better to leave a
toxic marriage that is dysfunctional; toxic patterns shatter relationships and
break trust.
Reclaim your life and happiness. The decision may
feel overwhelming, and there can be significant family and social pressures
that discourage you from taking bold steps. This is the story of a woman who,
despite her struggles, shows great inner strength and resilience as she
rebuilds her life. Rather than waiting for the storm to pass, she learned to
dance in the rain. She chooses a life that nurtures her well-being and brings
her inner peace, whether that means entering a respectful relationship or
living independently. Embracing this new chapter, with a shift in mindset and
perspective, empowers women with both emotional and financial independence.
As for Zeba,
she finds a delightful companionship with Jamal. Her wedding proved to be a
fresh chapter that secured a better future for her kids. Towards the end, Subook
and Daneen got engaged in a heartwarming relationship.
Kafeel, a realistic heart-wrenching drama, with a compelling
storytelling, intense, riveting script, and naturalistic performance, evoked
strong feelings in the audience from the first episode to the last. Written by renowned
writer Umera Ahmed, produced by Fahad Mustafa and Dr. Ali Kazmi, and directed
by Meesam Naqvi, the drama maintained its pace from the start till the last
moment. Fervent drama fans finally let out a sigh of relief as they watched the
last-minute wedding tropes that led to a beautiful note of closure. A heartfelt
narrative has achieved a major milestone, surpassing 350 million views on
YouTube following the airing of its final episode.
Truly amazing work! A huge round of applause for
the producer and director for delivering a top-tier production and
demonstrating a masterclass in emotional storytelling. The whole cast deserves
a standing ovation for their incredible performances.
